The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Korea University, in collaboration with the Korean Society of Contemporary European Studies (KSCES), hosted the 2023 Spring Conference on May 12, 2023, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and the European Union. The all-day academic conference brought together leading scholars, policy experts, and emerging researchers to reflect on the past, present, and future of Korea–EU relations.

The conference opened with sessions featuring young and prospective scholars, providing a platform for the next generation of European studies researchers to present their work and engage in constructive academic dialogue. In the main session hosted by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, distinguished scholars Professor Changrok Seo, Professor Shinhwa Lee, Professor Janghyuk Lee, and Professor Sijung Lim delivered in-depth presentations addressing key political, security, and policy issues related to Europe and the EU. The session was presided over by Professor Jae-Seung Lee, who guided the discussion and facilitated active exchanges among participants.

The conference concluded with a Gala Dinner, which further strengthened networks among academia, diplomacy, and policy communities. Ambassadors and diplomats from European embassies in Korea, along with prominent scholars specializing in EU studies, attended the event, creating a valuable forum for dialogue and exchange. The gala dinner served as a meaningful occasion to commemorate six decades of Korea–EU diplomatic relations and to reinforce mutual understanding and cooperation between Korea and Europe.
