H.E. Ugo Astuto, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Korea, and his EU Delegation recently visited Korea University (KU) to meet Prof. Jae-Seung Lee, the Jean Monnet Chair of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JMCE) at Korea University as well as his staffs from the JMCE and the Ilmin International Relations Institute (IIRI), and to explore future collaboration with JMCE. During the meeting, discussions focused on how diversity is reflected in KU’s academic environment from the educational perspective, including the range of courses offered, student interests, curriculum designs, and upcoming programs and events.
KU shared its interdisciplinary approach to diversity, with courses covering areas such as cross-cultural communication, gender and identity, media and society, political philosophy, and global studies. Students have shown strong interest in topics related to global affairs, inclusion, social issues, and international cooperation. Diversity is increasingly being integrated across the curriculum, not only through individual courses but also through broader academic and extracurricular initiatives.
The conversation also highlighted upcoming diversity-related programs, including student participation initiatives, research conferences, and campus events that promote inclusion and dialogue. Both sides discussed the importance of strengthening future collaboration between the EU Delegation and the JMCE through joint academic programs, policy discussions, student exchanges, and research partnerships, further deepening cooperation between Korea and Europe.
